Official LAG News (07-09)

Hello all and welcome to the first LAG news post since, well, about 2007. But we won't dwindle on that becuase this is going to be a proper LAG news post: one that will live up to the description of our announcements forum: "Make sure you're up to date on what's happening." So let's bring us all up to date, shall we?

First topic of business, the forum itself. If you have been posting here regularly you may have noticed through very subtle hints that we are no longer using phpBB or simple machines or whatever crap forum we used in the past. Oh no, what we're using now is Cheesy Forums. Yes, we seem to have taken for granted the fact that we represent the first known successful implementation of Cheesy Forums. In fact, aside from "nobody" who posted about some sort of error log artifact on sourceforge, we're probably the only people that know about its exsistence. But so far it's been decent and I personally have not run into any major (although there have been some minor) bugs. So congratulations and a thank you to Cheese for desingning our very own forum from scratch. That's no small feat. Plus it's fun to criticize him when you click those weird HTML and CSS things at the bottom of the page.

Second, the new LAG banner. If you check here regularly (aka at least once prior to the date of the previous news post) you may have noticed the big banner at the top of your screen. If you have failed to do so, I urge you to scroll up and take a gander and behold its magnificence. Yes, hand-crafted by our resident artist Johnay it shows the five current (and only) members of LAG. By the way, if you are interested in seeing the first version of the banner, it can be found here. And yes, we're aware Socks looks absolutely hilarious!

Third, LAG is no longer an acronym for "Local Area Gamers," oooh no. Although it may say so in certain locations, (ie. steam) they lie, I assure you. Again thanks to our resident leetist Johnay we have a new meaning to the LAG acronym: Leet Action Guys. I don't really know how he came up with it, if he had help, why he came up with it, or why we adopted it, but that's just the way life goes. So we are now the Leet Action Guys. Yes, we are leet. Yes, we are action. And yes, we are guys. So I suppose the name fits quite well. Much better than Local Area Gamers... I mean, Johnay isn't REALLY local and we're not really the gamers we used to be. Although I suppose the "area" parts still fits: we do either live in an area and we all take up area. Nonetheless, Leet Action Guys we now are.

Forth, again with Johnay news (there is quite a bit if I'm honest), he now has his own forum here on lagserv.net. Oh yes, it's called "Johnay's Jist of it," and can be found either by clicking "Johnay's Jist of it" on the Forum index under the "LAG" heading, or by clicking here. Johnay's Jist of it features a uniquely Johnay-esque point of view about his findings. I don't know where he finds these things out or what made him decide to write about them, but they're usually quite good reads. Although I did convince Cheese to get rid of the "weekly" part in the description, I'd highly recommend that you wander over that way at some point.

Fifth, has any one else but me noticed that of the regular lagserv.net posters, only Caleb and Johnay have avatars? To coin a term from the great Cheesonious, that's pretty weird. Also weird is the fact that I am the only one without a signature. Yep, that's pretty weird too.

Sixth, the LAG arcade (which existed for a short time between this news post and the previous "real" LAG news post) has returned! Sort of. After a heated debate, the new LAG Arcade is mostly just a forum with some imbedded .swf files for games. In the topics that the games are in, people can post scores. So far all we have is the helicopter game. But it will probably grow. Probably. I hope so, because I suck at the helicopter game. Although, if you were interested, my high score on iCopter is 2873.

Seventh, LAG has re-entered the Team Warfare League. Yes, our Matches and Scrimmages forum came out of the mothballs and has been revived once more. Frighteningly, LAG is doing quite well. Due to a ridiculous amount of forfeit wins, we're in the top 25 or something to that effect. So that's some pretty exciting stuff, eh? It's really surprising especially when you consider that many of us are far too lazy to deal with installing steam.

Eighth, because I forgot to say it earlier, we are no longer at lag-clan.com. If you have yet to notice this then, again, you're weird (Cheesonious, 2009). We are now located at http://www.lagserv.net. So that's also very exciting news!

Ninth, and probably one of the bigger bits of news, is the pretty drastic change in leadership. Yes, every one is a moderator at lagserv.net! Well, almost every body. Socks is, Johnay is, Caleb is, I am (I think), although no one else is. But that's alright, because we're the only ones that actually post anyways. Cheese, on the other hand, is now the unofficial leader of the Leet Action Guys it seems, with Johnay playing a very influential role as well. Which is pretty weird, when you look back at the past. And with the new casual policies that I announced back in 2007, LAG has become a fairly peaceful community of friends that don't actually play a lot of Counter-Strike. Or anything, for that matter... at least not together. The fact we are now all equals with the exception of Cheese who is technically still an equal, has ceased the power vacuum. This setup now seems to work perfectly: to deviate from its path would be an unwise decision!

Tenth is the creation of Tet's Turf / Tet's upload forum. This is a forum where I can upload riffs, demos, and other recordings to get feedback. I've also decided to detach it from the main part of the forum so I can send the link to many different people to get their opinions without them becoming aware of my secret life as a Leet Action Guy. As the forum is not shown on the list of forums, the only direct link to it can be found via Cheese or myself (or by adding it as a favourite), or by clicking here. Just kidding! By clicking here. I may have a full-blown demo ready in a few weeks (I got the first demo done, got some suggestions from an accomplished guitarist/singer/songwriter/musician and am taking it back to the drawing board to see what I can do with it).

Eleventh is the more personal news of Cheese and myself. We're 98% going to be moving within a couple/few months. But we'll let every one know before you wonder where the hell we are. This won't affect lagserv.net as the server is being hosted elsewhere, so don't worry. But yeah, just so you know! And now you know!

Twelfth, the archives section. The archives section contains three old great forums that we used to put around in back in the day. These include LAG-MART, Introductions and Membership Requests, and Servers and Suggestions. They're there so you can still read them (although only God would know why you would want to), and to take up space so far as I can see. All they suggest is that, one, you cannot buy or sell things on our forums. Two, you can't become a Leet Action Guy or even so much as introduce yourself to the rest of us even if you just want to talk about our new leet banner. And three, we don't have any servers and you can keep your suggestions to yourself. The last one is a bit odd because I though we had a server. Maybe I'm just too much out of the loop. I don't really know why we have an archives section, especially since it seems that you can still post in archived topics.

Thirteenth, the creation of the Leet Action Guy group on fagbook. Yes, we are now a closed organization on the book of face. If you have the urge to apply to be a Leet Action Guy and be turned down, you can click here to get to the group page. I created it because I was very bored.

So here we are, three years after the original conception of LAG (as the Local Area Gamers, albeit), and the community is still going strong! Strong x5! Okay so it's not really that popular and we had some ups and we had some downs, but it's all good. With the exceptionally weird leadership of Cheese, LAG will enter it's forth year of existence sometime this summer. Too bad we don't actually know when we first created LAG, but it was in August or something. Ah well, it doesn't matter. Anyways, this has been your first bit of LAG news in years, so I hope you enjoyed it. It took me a long ass time to write it. The thing is, though, that there isn't actually a "news" forum... it's called "announcements." So maybe I just wasted a couple hours. Oops... In the meantime, however, I'd like to write out some LAG awards for 2008. Why 2008? Because 2009 is not done yet, of course.

Award for Weirdest Leet Action Guy: Cheese
Award for the Leet Action Guy with his own fanclub: Johnay
Award for the Leetest Leet Action Guy: Five-way tie
Award for the Leet Action Guy with the weirdest name: Socks
Award for the Leet Action Guy who may drive a yellow car one day: Cab
Award for the Leet Action Guy who doesn't even have a working PC anymore: Tet

So there we go. Thanks for reading the first real LAG news post in a long time. Although, let's be honest, there have been some really great sort-of news posts in the meantime. Such as my famous and skillfully crafted Diablo 3 wallpaper, the list of the best games ever made, and our Fiero/Corey Hart awareness post. Although none of those have ever reached the popularity of the announcement of the first version of Johnay's banner, they are all gems nonetheless. Well, in conclusion, the Leet Action Guys are pretty leet and this is probably the longest LAG post in the history of, well, LAG.

Our old IP address of 2 and a half years is gone. I'll miss 209.121.199.141 mostly because I have to remember something new, and that is 207.216.74.18.
